Resolving browser permissions issues

In most cases, using SignalWire Work for the first time "just works."  However, there are known situations where either:

  • Your browser doesn't have the right operating system permissions
  • Your SignalWire Work domain doesn't have the right Website permissions in your browser.

These instructions are specific to each operating system and browser.

Instructions are included below for:

Mac OS permissions

Instructions

For all browsers other than Safari, to check you permissions on MacOS:

  • From the Apple menu (), choose System Preferences.
  • Click the Security & Privacy icon.
  • From the left side of the Security & Privacy screen, scroll down until you see Camera.
  • For the Camera, Microphone, and Screen Recording settings, make sure that your preferred browsers (e.g., Firefox and Chrome) are selected.

Instructions

If your preferred Web browser (other than Safari) was present but unchecked in any of these lists, then:

  • Quit your browser
  • Check the item to enable the browser under its the Security & Privacy setting where it was disabled
  • Restart your browser

If you do not quit your browser first, you will get one of the following error messages.  Even though the screen captures below use Google Chrome for Mac as an example, these messages are specific to MacOS, not your browser.

If your preferred browser does not show up on the list, you should try to first join a room, and perform screen sharing.

Now that you've resolved operating system dependencies, you should next check the browser dependencies.
