# setSpeechEventTimeout

Adjust the speech event timeout. This controls how many milliseconds since the
last speech detection event to wait before finalizing recognition. This timeout
works better than [`setEndOfSpeechTimeout()`][set-end-of-speech-timeout]
in noisy environments.

**`milliseconds`** `number` — required

Timeout in milliseconds.
