Roadmap Insights | Q1 & Q2 2019

It’s been a while since our last Roadmap Insights, and boy have we been busy.

By Erik Lagerway, VP of Product

Q1 2019

It was a banner quarter with a great many new customers finding value in what SignalWire is helping them build. We shipped several new features previously posted on the product blog, including:

We have also added several more features that were quietly announced in the SignalWire community slack channel, as an example: E911 (Support for Emergency Calling - now at the low price of $0.60 / per number - MRC*), LNP (Number Porting), PHP library, Toll-Free Messaging Throughput increased from 1 message per second (MPS) to 15 messages per second (MPS). With this came a slight increase in cost from $0.005 to $0.0055 (which is temporary). We also shipped support for G.729 CODEC support and a few new Relay Voice APIs as well, including Play, Say, Record, TTS, and ASR.

Q2 2019 is shaping up to be even more active than Q1.

Here are some of the more noteworthy features we are working on that will be sure to get the attention of developers looking to build innovative applications:

  • International Service
We have been working hard to create a good International experience for our customers. First out the door will be SignalWire International termination, supporting outbound calling to a great many countries, more on the actual locations and the associated rates to be released very soon. Termination will be followed by Origination, with the ability to buy numbers in select countries.

  • Web Browser Library (WebRTC)
This is the common JS library for audio, video (and eventually messaging) we’ve all been waiting for! Use this library in conjunction with our APIs to build powerful web apps for business communications.

  • IP Authentication
There are several ways for our customers to bring traffic to our network and now there is one more. IP Authentication basically allows our customers to whitelist IP addresses and domains for their network where calls can originate from, it been something that many customers have been asking for and we have listened. We expect this to ship before the end of June.

  • Mobile SDKs for iOS and Android
Our mobile strategy is simple, make all the things work on web and leverage that code in our iOS and Android mobile toolkits. The Web Browser (common JS) Library will ship first, with the mobile toolkits close behind.

  • Google AI / Dialogflow (Voice Transfer)
We continue to enhance our AI offering with additional features that add value for our customers. This quarter, we aim to also deliver something that few before us have done, transferring voice calls from a Dialogflow Agent to a live person using SignalWire Voice APIs. Stay tuned for more on this as it develops.

Customers Succeed at SignalWire

Our customers continue to tell us things like, “We are simply blown away with the customer service we receive from SignalWire, we have never experienced anything like it in the industry.”

This sentiment drives our insatiable appetite to help our customers succeed in whatever their project commands. We all genuinely care about the customer experience and work hard to provide levels of support you won’t find anywhere else.
