What to Expect From ClueCon 2025

20th Anniversary of FreeSWITCH Edition

ClueCon 2025 is almost here! Join us at the iconic Swissotel in Chicago from August 4th–7th to celebrate 20 years of FreeSWITCH and explore real-time communications, open-source innovation, and the future of AI in telecom.

Founded in 2005 by a group of Asterisk developers, ClueCon was created to bring together open-source telecom projects and foster collaboration. Just one year later, that same team launched FreeSWITCH, and the rest is history. Today, ClueCon remains a hub for the developer community to make connections and share ideas.

If you haven’t registered yet, it’s not too late!

Here's a look at what’s in store for this year’s conference:

Monday: Coder Games and AI workshops

Kick off ClueCon with the Coder Games, a creative and collaborative hack-a-thon packed with both coding and non-coding challenges. Work solo or on a team, program your way to the prize, or take a break from your screen to do some real-life engineering.

AI workshops and live coding challenges

Throughout the day, you’ll find a selection of AI workshops guiding you through using the new SignalWire Agents SDK. Participate in any or all of them, and then join us for the final showdown at the end of the day.

During the first workshop, learn how to build voice AI agents directly within a real-time telecom environment.

The second workshop will go over how to build voice agents that can handle PCI-sensitive tasks like payment collection while keeping credit card data completely isolated from the AI model.

In the third workshop, follow along to see how AI agents can bridge software and hardware. In this hands-on session, you’ll collect user input over the phone, process it with AI, and trigger physical events

At the end of the afternoon, join FreeSWITCH founder Brian West as he takes on your wildest ideas in real-time. Attendees will pitch bizarre, useful, or hilarious AI bot concepts, and Brian has to build them live on the spot. Will it work? Or will it crash? The only way to find out is to be there.

Maker Challenge

Meanwhile, if you’d rather tinker with electronics, build an Arduino-powered device that responds to phone calls or SMS in real time using SignalWire APIs. Bonus points for integrating an AI agent to control your device.

FreeCYCLED Hacks

This family-friendly event during the Coder Games is all about building with household items and taking a break from coding. This year, we’re challenging you to build a carnival game. From ring toss to pinball machines, creativity wins the day. You'll get to demo your creation and vote on your favorites!

SignalWire Challenge

This year’s SignalWire challenge is to troll a spammer. Build an AI-powered voice bot that uses context-aware dialogue to mess with spam callers. Prototype it during the day, then share it on GitHub later as part of our Code Bounty.
